Dr. RAJENDRA PRAKASH MAURYA has won the “Asia’s Best Academician of the Year
Award” in Ophthalmology (Ophthalmic Oncology, Trauma and Oculoplasty) ”
Dr. Maurya is an Associate Professor & In-Charge of Ophthalmic Oncology, Trauma and
Oculoplasty Unit of Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu
University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. He is an International fame Ophthalmic Oncologist &
Oculoplastic Reconstructive Surgeon and is Editor-in-Chief of two Indexed Journals: 1. Indian Journal
of Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology (Indexed in SCOPUS), and 2. IP International Journal of
Ocular Oncology and Oculoplasty since 2015. Presently he is an eminent position holder in various
National and International Societies which includes position of 1. Joint Secretary, Oculoplastic Society
of South Asia (OPSSA) 2. Board Member, Asia Pacific Ocular Trauma Society (APOTS), 3. General
Secretary, Association of Community Ophthalmology (ACOIN), U.P. Chapter, 4. Joint Secretary,
Ocular Trauma Society of India (OTSI), 5. Executive Member, Oculoplastic Society of India (OPAI)
and 6. Convener, Forum of Ophthalmology Teachers of India (FOTI).
Dr. Maurya was born in 1965 in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh, India. After completing
his basic education in Jaunpur, he completed his MBBS (in 1990), Master of Surgery (MS,
Ophthalmology in 1994) and his PhD (Ophthalmology in 2016, during service period) from Institute
of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. He is having 30 years of Ophthalmic clinical
and surgical expertise. He supervised more than 30 theses, completed 6 research projects on Ophthalmic
cancer, and conducted several drug trials. He has published over 100 research papers in various national
and international peer reviewed, indexed journals and has contributed as an author in several books.
He is reviewer of several reputed Indexed Journals viz. PLOS One, Injury, BMC, Injury Prevention,
International Ophthalmology etc. He presented 122 research papers and participated as Invited
Faculty, Chairperson, Co-Chairperson, Chief Instructor, Instructor, Panellist, Moderator and Abstract
Reviewer in 92 states, national and international conferences/symposia/Ophthalmic congresses viz.
American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO-Congress), World Ocular Trauma Conference (WOTC),
Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Congress (APAO-Congress), South Asian Academy of
Ophthalmology Congress (SAAO-Congress), All India Ophthalmological Society Conference (AIOC),
Annual Conference of Oculoplastic Association of India (OPAI), and Annual Conferences of Ocular
Trauma Society of India (OTSI) etc. Dr. Maurya was the Chief Instructor in APAO Congress at Hong
Kong and Malaysia, and SAAO-Congress at Kathmandu Nepal and New Delhi. He was Organizing

National Board (DNB), MS (Ophth.) and UG (MBBS) in various Medical Colleges. Earlier he holds
several Administrative posts in University including Administrative Warden of Medical Boys Hostel,
Chairman Hospital Inspection committee, UG Teaching In-charge, Member of many fact finding and
Technical Officer of University Hospital.
