I, Dr. Shristi Singh has won the title of ISTRA 2024 under ” International best researcher award”. I was born in Ranchi, into a close-knit family. My father is a successful businessman, and mother, a dedicated homemaker, provided me with a nurturing environment filled with love, encouragement, and unwavering support. Growing up, I was inspired by my parents’ values and work ethic, which instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility and a desire to achieve great things. My parents’ influence has been a guiding force in my life, motivating me to pursue my dreams with determination and compassion.
From a young age, I have exhibited a keen interest in the arts, particularly dancing and painting. These hobbies not only allowed me to express my creativity but also provided me with a sense of balance and joy amidst my academic pursuits. My artistic inclinations have continued to be an essential part of my life, offering me a creative outlet and a way to unwind from the demands of my medical career.
My academic journey began in Ranchi, where I completed my schooling. My innate kindness and desire to help others naturally drew me towards a career in medicine. I was determined to make a difference in people’s lives, and medicine provided the perfect avenue for me to do so.
After completing my schooling, I pursued my MBBS at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Karad. My time at KIMS was marked by academic excellence and a thirst for knowledge. I actively participated in various academic competitions, winning the district-level psychiatry quiz and the college-level anatomy quiz.
A pivotal moment in my life occurred during preparatory year when an incident involving my brother sparked a interest in orthopaedics. This personal experience made me acutely aware of the importance of this medical specialty, and I resolved to pursue further studies in this field. Orthopaedics, a branch traditionally dominated by men, presented a unique challenge for me, but I was undeterred. I’m fortunate enough to secure a postgraduate seat in orthopaedics at Maharishi Markandeshwar Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (MMIMSR) in Ambala, Haryana where i’m surrounded by supportive mentors, including my Head of Department (HOD), professors, and colleagues. Their encouragement and guidance have been instrumental in my journey, helping me navigate the challenges of a male-dominated field with confidence and grace.
I have collaborated with my professors, seniors, and colleagues on multiple research projects, leading to the publication of five research papers. These publications have covered various aspects of orthopaedics, contributing valuable insights to the field. Additionally, i have two more research papers currently in progress.
In June 2024, I was honored with the International Star Research Award by ISSN for my article on Parsonage Turner Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder. This prestigious recognition was a testament to my hard work and the impact of my research. The award not only acknowledged my contributions to the field but also fueled my desire to achieve even more in the future. The International Best Researcher Award by ISTRA in 2024, has recognized me as an exceptional researcher, and it is a moment of immense pride and honor for me. Being chosen for such a prestigious award has been a source of inspiration, motivating me to continue striving for excellence in my work. I aspire to become a successful orthopaedic surgeon, with a particular interest in paving the way for other female aspirants in this traditionally male-dominated field. I’m passionate about mentoring and supporting women who wish to pursue careers in orthopaedics, helping them overcome the challenges and stereotypes that may stand in their way.
I also have plans to further my education and specialization. I’m interested in pursuing fellowship programs and, if possible, a spine course, which would allow me to deepen my expertise and expand my skill set. My ultimate goal is to use my knowledge and skills to benefit the community, providing top-quality care to my patients and contributing to the betterment of society.
I believe that my hobbies have played a crucial role in keeping me grounded and focused, allowing me to bring my best self to my work and my patients.
I hope to leave a lasting legacy in the world of medicine. I envision a future where more women are empowered to pursue careers in orthopaedics, where the field is more inclusive and diverse, and where my work and research have made a tangible impact on patient care. I’m committed to doing something good for the community, and my dedication to my profession and my patients will undoubtedly continue to inspire others for years to come.
