Bhupinder Paul Singh Sahni has won the title of ISTRA 2024 (International
Science, Technology & Research Awards 2024) under “International Best
Researcher Award” for the excellence in “Quality Assurance in Agile
Methodology”.
I am Bhupinder Paul Singh Sahni, having 18+ years of experience in
Information Technology, specifically as Quality Assurance specialist in
Investment Banking domain. I have worked with Investments Banks and
FinTech Companies like JP Morgan, Royal Bank of Scotland and
MarketAxess Corporation in India and USA. I am currently working as
Quality Assurance Manager at MarketAxess Corporation in New York, USA
since 2020.
I completed my Bachelor of Engineering from Thapar University in Patiala,
Punjab, India in 2006 and through campus placements got placed in
Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS). Although I started as a software
developer in Mainframe Technology, but soon shifted to Quality Assurance,
given my interest to understand more on domain side of things, which was
primarily Investment Banking. After working with Cognizant Technology
Solutions for 2 years, I switched to JP Morgan in 2008 in Mumbai working
on their different Investment Banking Applications. In 2010, I moved to
Royal Bank of Scotland where I started working on Fixed Income side of
things, mostly on their Fixed income Trading Applications, interacting with
different other Trading platforms like Bloomberg, MarketAxess, Tradeweb,
BondVision, etc. Although I was working as a Quality Assurance Lead but
learnt a lot on the Investment banking side also, especially around Fixed
Income Trading. I learned nuances of Algorithmic Trading Strategies as
well, applying different algorithmic strategies like Iceberg strategy, Trailing
Stop Strategy, Momentum strategy, etc. on high volume trades on
exchanges and over-the-counter Fixed Income trading. Fixed Income
Trading is high-volume trading, so only mostly institutional investors and
Investment Banks participate. I gained good experience at Royal Bank of
Scotland with testing on Fixed Income Trading applications, that too from
the dealer side. After working with RBS for 5 years, I then switched to Iris
Software. Iris Software had many good projects, especially in Fixed Income
Trading domain, which I was interested in. With Iris Software, I got a
chance to work on Municipal Bonds Trading platform application and
project on one of the big FinTech companies on Trading platform for Fixed
Income Products. I came to USA through Iris Software and then finally
landed up working with MarketAxess Corporation. MarketAxess provides
trading platform and APIs to clients and dealers across the globe for
executing trades for corporate bonds, Municipal Bonds, Swaps, etc. Within
MarketAxess, I play multiple roles of QA Manager, Onsite-Offshore QA co-
ordinator and Scrum Master of Emerging Markets Team. Being a Scrum
Master of Emerging Markets Team, my team delivered important projects
like extending the MarketAxess trading platform to 2 nd biggest Bond market
in the world – China, extending emerging and frontier markets liquidity to
include Egypt, Hong Kong and Serbia. Additionally, I am managing the
entire QA Offshore Team of more than 50+ members from India, Canada
and QA Resources at Onsite from US & UK. I help QA resources in Skill
development, building Standard Tools and methods. I lead and manage
Quality Assurance initiatives at MarketAxess and lead the initiatives of
standardization of Quality Assurance Processes across the Teams. One of
my key focus areas is to promote and enforce QA Automation across the
Teams, helping remove the bottlenecks for Automation. So, in short,
Overall, my job for the last 18+ years has mostly been around Software
Quality Assurance for Fixed Income trading applications.
In addition to my a job responsibilities at work, I have also written 19 white
papers till now, which are published in various esteemed journals like
International Journal of Engineering Research and Technology (IJERT),
European Journal of Advances in Engineering and Technology (EJAET),
Journal of Scientific and Engineering Research (JSAER), International
Journal of Science and Research (IJSR), International Journal of Core
Engineering & Management (IJCEM), Journal of Artificial Intelligence,
Machine Learning and Data Science, and few others. All these research
papers are mostly coming out of my work experience and research in
Quality Assurance, Investment Banking topics and Agile Methodology.
CARI Journals even reached out to me on one of the white paper topics
“Understanding and Testing Iceberg Algorithmic Trading Strategy”
published in “Journal of Business and Strategic Management” to be
covered as one of the chapters in a Book. This is Work-in-progress and
hopefully I will be Author of a Book by the end of the year. Some of the
other white papers and research articles that I have written and got
published in different other journals include, “Quality Assurance in
Investment Banking Domain”, “Use Case Point Estimation for Testing
Projects”, “Introduction to Algorithmic Trading Strategies”, “Quality
Assurance on Algorithmic Trading Strategies”, “Understanding Bond Pricing
Calculation”, “Quality Assurance for Electronic Trading Platforms”, “Quality
Assurance in Over-the-Counter vs Exchange Traded Products”, etc. And of
course, “Quality Assurance in Agile Methodology” being recognized under
“International Best Researcher Award” at ISTRA 2024.
I am also a review member of the review committee for a few of the
esteemed journals like International Journal of Engineering Research and
Technology (IJERT), Global Research Gateway and International Journal of
Current Science. Through these esteemed journals, I review white papers
and research articles written by others in my domain and provide feedback,
to ensure only the articles that meet the quality standards of these journals
are published.
In conclusion, Investment Banking is a huge domain, and with the blend of
Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, sky is the limit of
knowledge. It has been my conscious effort to continue the constant
learning process, through my responsibilities at job or via researching it
through white papers or research articles. I firmly believe that there is no
substitute for hard work.
