Hello, everyone. My name is M. Thenmozhi. I have won the title of ISTRA 2024 under
“International Best Researcher Award”
. I am excited to share my academic and
professional journey in the field of pharmacology and toxicology. I began my academic
pursuits at the College of Pharmacy, Madurai Medical College, where I earned my Bachelor of
Pharmacy (B. Pharm) in 2009. This foundational education ignited my passion for
pharmacology, leading me to further my studies at the College of Pharmacy, Madras Medical
College, where I completed my Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm) with a specialization in
Pharmacology in 2012. Currently, I am serving as an Assistant Research Officer in the
Department of Pharmacology at the Captain Srinivasa Murthy Central Ayurveda Research
Institute in Chennai, a position I have held since December 2020. In this role, I am responsible
for conducting toxicity and safety studies of Ayurvedic formulations, coded drugs, and
individual drugs. This work allows me to explore the efficacy and safety of traditional
medicines, aligning with my passion for integrating modern pharmacological practices with
Ayurvedic principles. Before my current position, in 2020, I was also selected as a Drug
Inspector for the Tamil Nadu government, but with keen interest in research I have joined in
the Ministry of AYUSH, GOI. I had the privilege of working as a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) at
the same institute, where I focused on the pre-clinical evaluation of an Ayurvedic herbal
formulation, Vaisvanara Churna used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. This research
was pivotal in my career, providing me with hands-on experience in assessing the toxicity and
efficacy profiles of herbal medicines. I have also worked as a Tutor/Lecturer at Anna Medical
College & Research Centre in the Department of Pharmacology from May 2013 to May
2014 was equally enriching. I taught medical students the fundamentals of pharmacology,
systemic pharmacology, posology, and drug interactions, helping to cultivate the next
generation of healthcare professionals. This role deepened my understanding of
pharmacology and re-inforced my commitment to education. I am currently involved in
several ongoing research projects, including the development of a Drug Master File and
Dossier. I have dedicated over eight years to research and education in pharmacology, with
10 publications and active participation in ten conferences to my credit. In summary, As I
continue my journey in pharmacology, I am excited about the future of research and its
potential to improve healthcare outcomes. Thank you for allowing me to share my journey,
and I look forward to the more opportunities and collaborations that lie ahead.
