Dr. Subarna Datta has won Outstanding Researcher Award for excellence in, “Effect of structural
deformations on the transport properties of half-doped manganite nanowires: An insight through
high resolution image simulation” in Asia International Research Awards 2023 (ASTRA 2023)
on 1st July 2023 at Grandeur Hall, Breeze Residency in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, India. I am Dr.
Subarna Datta from Kolkata, India. Presently, I am working as a Research Associate-2 in the
Physics division in Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, Kolkata, India. I passed the secondary and
higher secondary examination with 1st class in 2003 and 2005 respectively. Then I took
admission in Serampore College for pursuing B.Sc Honors in Physics and I passed with 56% in
2008. Then I took admission for M.Sc in Physics in Lady Brabourne College under the umbrella
of University of Calcutta and I passed with 74% in 2010. Before starting my Ph.D work, I
worked as a project assistant in S. N Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata from
April, 2011 to July 2012. In this time period, I had experience in working on ZnO thin film on
quartz substrate grown by Pulsed Laser Deposition. I used UV-vis spectrometer,
Photoluminescence (PL) spectrometer for optical measurement. I had experience in operating
thermal evaporation and an e beam evaporation system for deposition of thin films. I enrolled for
P.hD in S. N Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata and was awarded Ph.D degree in
2018. In my P.hD work, I worked in experimental condensed matter physics, mainly on
perovskite oxides based manganite nanowire system in the field of nano science and technology,
mainly on lithographically (optical, e-beam and focused ion beam lithography) patterned single
nanowire based device. I optimized the growth of manganite nanowires using hydrothermal
method, characterized using spatially resolved techniques using Transmission Electron
Microscopy (TEM), Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy, Energy Filtered TEM, analyzed X-ray
diffraction data using synchrotron and lab source and neutron diffraction data by Rietveld
refinement method. Synchrotron XRD measurement was carried out at Photon Factory, KEK,
Japan. I had experience in growth of complex oxide nanowires and nanoparticles by
hydrothermal method, sol gel method, solid state method and complex oxide films by Pulsed
Laser deposition with Reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED). I had operated
thermal evaporation and e beam evaporation for deposition of thin films and high temperature
programmable furnace and high vacuum annealing chamber, arc melting method for sample
preparation. I performed magnetic measurements using VSM, SQUID, PPMS and electrical
transport measurements including 1/f noise spectroscopy study. I worked as a Research Associate in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics division in Saha Institute of Nuclear
Physics (SINP), Kolkata, India. In my post doctoral project tenure in SINP (2019-2021), I
worked on rare earth based intermetallic compounds and did extensive study of structural and
magnetic properties of those materials which exhibit very interesting properties. I had put
rational effort in preparation of good quality bulk rare earth based intermetallic materials and
studying crystallographic structure of those compounds using laboratory based X-ray
diffractometer in a wide temperature range (10 K – 550 K). I had extensively used the Rietveld
refinement method for structural analysis and I am proficient in this. I have experience in
handling superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUID) and PPMS for magnetic
measurements and analyzing the magnetic properties thoroughly. Now in VECC, I am in charge
of Physical Property Measurement system (PPMS) and doing extensive studies of electrical
properties of different types of alloys, films and bulk samples. I have started DFT simulations
using WIEN2K and Quantum Espresso software’s along with the experimental studies. I
published 16 papers in reputed international SCI journals. I attended 14 numbers of
conferences/seminars/workshops. I qualified Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in
Physical Science in 2011 and passed National Eligibility Test (NET) Lecturer-ship (LS)
qualified, rank 0017/0296 in Physical Sciences in 2013. I have been awarded the Best Poster
award in Young Scientists’ Colloquium 2015 organized by Materials Research Society of India
(MRSI) in 2015.
